Grooming
Although they hardly shed,
cockapoos do require daily brushing to remove tangles that so easily appear in their
long coat.
Usually Cockapoos don’t require
clipping, but some owners will like to give them extra personality, or flair,
and that is entirely down to your preferences, but they should only ever be
trimmed to two to three inches in length.
Be sure to trim the hair around
the eyes regularly to help visibility or you may find your gorgeous dog bumping
into everything.
Cockapoos are supposed to be
odourless and non-shedding however, as they're not a pure breed, this cannot be
guaranteed. If they are then they only need to be bathed when absolutely
necessary, like after rolling in mud or fox poo because over bathing will
result in losing their natural oils which keep the coat healthy.
Their floppy ears create the
perfect environment for bacteria, so you must check their ears regularly for
any sign of infection which could be redness, sores, or bad odour. Gently wash
their ear with a cotton wool bud and cleaning solution, but to avoid damaging
the ear canal, only clean areas you can see.
Brush their teeth at least two or
three times a week to remove tartar buildup and bacteria. If you can, daily
brushing is even better to prevent gum disease.
Plan to trim their nails once or
twice a month, but always bear in mind that if you can hear them clicking on
the floor, they’re too long and should be cut immediately. Not only does
trimming the nails keep their paws in good condition, it also protects you,
your family, and your furniture when they jump up.
